Apple TV Plus has just revealed the official trailer for its upcoming limited series ‘The Crowded Room‘, along with its release date. The psychological thriller will premiere on Apple TV Plus on 9th June, 2023.
What’s unique about ‘The Crowded Room’ is that it stars Tom Holland in one of the darkest roles he’s ever played on screen. The angelic actor plays a young man, troubled by mental health issues in the series, and the primary suspect in a series of brutal murders. The series is based on the crimes of Billy Milligan, and adapted from Daniel Keyes’ 1981 non-fiction novel, ‘The Minds of Billy Milligan.’ Akiva Goldsman has written the psychological thriller series. She is well-known as the writer of the 2001 film ‘A Beautiful Mind’.
The series is set in the backdrop of 1979 Manhattan. ‘The Crowded Room’ stars Tom Holland as Danny Sullivan, who’s arrested for a killing at the Rockefeller Centre. Amanda Seyfried plays chief investigator on the case, Rya Goodwin, who digs further into Danny’s past, uncovering more disappearances and likely murders, all associated with Danny.
Tom Holland’s character in ‘The Crowded Room’ is inspired from real-life murderer Billy Milligan, who was arrested for multiple rapes and murders in 1979, but was diagnosed with ‘dissociative identity disorder’, and infamously acquitted of the heinous crimes due to his mental health condition.
Besides Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried, ‘The Crowded Room’ stars Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, Will Chase, Lior Raz, Laila Robins, and Henry Eikenberry in pivotal roles. The official synopsis of ‘The Crowded Room’ reads, “In Manhattan in the summer of 1979, a young man is arrested for a shocking crime, and an unlikely investigator must solve the mystery behind it before the true criminal strikes again”.
