Sony Pictures has confirmed that the production of Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 3 is officially underway, with Denzel Washington returning as the fan-favourite Robert McCall. The most exciting thing about the upcoming action flick is that Dakota Fanning will reunite with the Academy Award-winning actor after Tony Scott’s Man on Fire (2004). Apart from these two, the film’s cast has Gaia Scodellaro. The makers are yet to reveal what roles these two newcomers will play in the upcoming entry in addition to the plot details.
Washington confirmed his presence in The Equalizer 3 in an interview with Collider in April this year. Sometime later, Fanning joined the film’s cast. And the news about Scodellaro’s casting surfaced last week.
The Equalizer film series serves as the reboot of the classic 80’s television series of the same name, created by the duo of Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. Additionally, the second reboot premiered in February last year in the form of a tv show starring Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall.
The first Equalizer entry came out in 2014. It received mixed-to-positive reviews, with praise directed towards Denzel Washington’s performance and action sequences. However, its sequel (2018) was nothing more than a bland action flick with boring fight scenes and a poor storyline. So, no one knows where Fuqua will take us in The Equalizer 3. It will release on September 3, 2023. Stay tuned for more updates.
