‘The Exorcist: Believer’, the sequel to the 1973 Academy Award-winning horror film ‘The Exorcist’ was released in theatres across the globe last week. As per several reviews by critics, the sequel failed to live up to the virtually unattainable benchmark set by the parent film.
‘The Exorcist: Believer’ has received an underwhelming critics’ score of just 23% based on 205 reviews on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, on IMDb, the movie has got a user rating of 5.1/10. However, despite the negative feedback, there is still a segment of diehard horror movie buffs who might be eager to watch it.
And in case horror genre fans couldn’t watch it in theatres, then the good thing is that ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ is all set for its digital release very soon. As per the latest update, the Exorcist sequel will reportedly be out on digital on 24th October.
However, it is to be noted that even if a popular Hollywood film releases digitally, it’s not a given that the movie will concurrently be made available for streaming on an Indian OTT platform for regular streaming. But once the film is out on digital, it can be expected that its Indian OTT premiere should soon follow, even though initially on a rental / pay-per-view basis.
Coming back to ‘The Exorcist: Believer’, the film follows the story of a distressed couple whose daughter has been possessed by a demonic entity. They take the help of Chris MacNeil, who had undergone similar experience many years back as the distressed actress-mother of a possessed child (played by Linda Blair). Chris MacNeil’s character was played by Ellen Burstyn in the original Exorcist movie.
