Manoj Bajpayee is undoubtedly one of the finest actors in the Indian film industry. Some of his recent films have been attracting international attention also. Last year, the intense survival thriller ‘Joram’ premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). Moreover, the legal drama ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ cracked the IMDb top 250 international movies list.
And now, Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film ‘The Fable’ is all set to make its world premiere at one of the most prestigious film festivals across the globe – the Berlin International Film Festival 2024 aka Berlinale 2024. The Indian film will compete in the Encounters segment and in doing that, ‘The Fable’ has become only the second Indian movie in the last three decades to premiere in one of the key competitive sections of the reputed film fest.
Written and directed by Raam Reddy (Director – Thithi), the story of ‘The Fable’ is set in the late 1980s in the Indian Himalayas. The film follows a man named Dev, who owns a sprawling estate of multiple orchards. But one day, he sees a burnt apple tree followed by more burnt trees. He and his manager begin to monitor plantation workers. But the situation gets worse, and a massive fire breaks out. Dev resorts to violent ways to catch the culprit. Now, he must deal with the truth about himself and his family.
Considering the film’s unique and offbeat premise combined with a terrific cast and setting and the Berlinale record, it looks like ‘The Fable’ is going to be a special film which is bound to attract international attention. Let’s see what kind of response it gets at Berlinale 2024.
