The Falcon and The Winter Soldier that was released on 19th March 2021, was Marvel’s second series on the MCU characters after the successful release of WandaVision. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier starred Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in the lead roles, and followed the story of how they coped up after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier mainly focused on how the legacy of Steve Rogers’ Captain America will be as he handed over his shield to Sam Wilson by the end of Avengers: Endgame. Besides that The Falcon and The Winter became wildly successful as it touched various important topics.
The show made headlines for bringing out some important topics such as racism and inclusivity in the world of superheroes. This was very well portrayed in the movie with the inclusion of Isaiah’s character, which gave this theme a rock solid foundation. Also, Anthony Mackie’s portrayal of Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of Bucky Barnes left a huge positive impression on the fans, many claiming that they are the right people to carry on the legacy of Steve Rogers.
The Marvel fam recently had a very interesting zoom interview, which had many of its new stars joining in. Anthony Mackie too made his appearance via zoom call from his own home. As he talked about the series that went by, a very interesting revelation came up. If you have watched the series, you would know the monologue Sam Wilson had after saving the “city” (trying to keep it spoiler free with a vague term). The monologue attracted a huge fan base for how everything was perfectly put together and Wilson worded it to the people making it so damn good and inspiring.
So, in the recent interview Mackie revealed that he wanted to include the phrase “Let’s Make America Great Again” in that very monologue, but it wasn’t accepted. If you aren’t living under a rock then you must know that this phrase was widely used by former U.S. President Donald Trump, to a certain point that people even started hating it because of the views and points he made while using that phrase.
The phrase is not new; it has been around in U.S. politics for some time now. Some might say, it started during Ronald Reagan’s period but of course, the way Donald Trump popularised it, it went out of hand, almost to a point when people started using that for sarcastic notions. The phrase ultimately was called off, which feels like an excellent choice given the situation and the views people have of Donald Trump.
Writers and creators were afraid that the monologue that had so much emotion in it, might end up becoming something that is highly criticised. So, excluding that made it the best decision. On the workfront though, Anthony Mackie in the same interview mentioned he willingly will carry out his role for the coming 6-7 years. Also, a potential 4th Captain America movie that will be spearheaded by Malcolm Spellman, writer of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will have Mackie in the lead with the same political overview that the series had. Now, it’s only a matter of time that Marvel confirms this new project.
