After dilly-dallying for 4 months, Amazon Prime Video has finally dropped The Family Man 2 release date and trailer today. The sequel to its blockbuster hit series, The Family Man, arrives on 4th June on Amazon Prime.
The trailer starts off by showing the usual Shrikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee) shenanigans – domestic quibbles with wife Suchitra (Priyamani), and his run-ins with a marriage counselor. Yes, Shrikant and Suchitra seem to have gone in for marriage counseling to save their marriage, which has been rapidly deteriorating owing to Shrikant’s penchant for keeping secrets and being MIA at crucial times – a side effect of his spy alter-ego.
Shrikant also seems to have taken a break from being a secret National Investigative Agency (NIA) spy and is seen cooling his heels in a regular 9 to 5 job. These sequences brim with humour and Manoj Bajpayee‘s trademark dry wit and poker-faced dialogue delivery.
The action then shifts to Chennai – his colleague JK (Sharib Hashmi) is caught in a hostage situation. Before long, Shrikant Tiwari gets into the thick of things. “We are under attack” he says. The nation is facing a double-edged enemy – the notorious ISI has joined hands with Tamil rebels (apparently the LTTE, though the trailer desists from mentioning the organisation), to bring the NIA down to its knees.
What follows is high-octane action, and an explosive face-off with a dangerous enemy. Samantha Akkineni seems to be a highly trained rebel, who’s manipulated by an unnamed, undisclosed higher-up to launch a full-fledged attack on Indian forces. We get just a glimpse of the fight sequences, and we’re hooked. Viewers are in for a treat when The Family Man 2 will finally release on Amazon Prime Video in two weeks time.
The trailer shows glimpses of all that has endeared audiences to the fast-paced spy series. There’s action, thrill, humour, emotion and witty one-liners to satisfy the palate of the most discerning of viewers. Manoj Bajpayee grabs attention from the first shot of the trailer, and doesn’t let go till the very end. Samantha Akkineni impresses in the brief glimpses we get of her.
We simply can’t wait for The Family Man 2 to finally begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Mark your calendars for 4th June, guys!
