The concept of spin-offs or prequels is not new to the Indian film and television industry. For instance, Neeraj Pandey had further explored Taapsee Pannu’s character in his directorial spy thriller ‘Baby’ and later made it into a full-fledged movie titled ‘Naam Shabana’, which was directed by Shivam Nair.
Similarly, the animated series ‘Baahubali: The Lost Legends’ revolved around the younger versions of Prabhas and Rana Daggubati’s characters from S.S.Rajamouli’s epic films ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ and ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’.
Moreover, Abhishek Bachchan is playing the contract killer’s character in a spin-off to the brilliantly executed Sujoy Ghosh film ‘Kahaani’. The name of the film is ‘Bob Biswas’, based on the titular character.
‘The Family Man S2′ recently started streaming and is getting rousing applause from many critics and viewers. So, we thought it might be high time that the makers capitalize on the show’s popularity and brainstorm about these beautifully written characters that deserve their own spin-offs, prequels, or perhaps even parallel sequels:
1. Raji (Played by Samantha Akkineni)
The first interesting choice for a spin-off television series or a movie might revolve around Raji, a character adeptly portrayed by Samantha Akkineni. The audience was shown segments of the character’s backstory and her dark & disturbing past.
This complex character merits a separate series that could delve into further details about how she became the tough and brutal Raji that the audience witnessed.
2. Srikant Tiwari (Played by Manoj Bajpayee)
Although Manoj Bajpayee’s character Srikant Tiwari was the central point of the show’s narrative, we think there is still tremendous scope for an innovative backstory. The story of Srikant Tiwari’s early days at TASC.
It can take a similar route like that of Neeraj Pandey’s espionage thriller ‘Special OPS’. That is, digging into the formative days of Kay Kay Menon’s character Himmat Singh in ‘Special OPS 1.5’.
Moreover, who wouldn’t like to see an actor of Manoj Bajpayee’s caliber in a parallel series of the cult show?
3. JK Talpade (Played by Sharib Hashmi)
Everyone who loves ‘The Family Man’, is also in love with JK Talpade’s character. In one of our earlier articles, we had opined what an underrated this ‘Filmistaan’ actor is. There could be possibly a spin-off show portraying the character’s struggles and missions that happened during the period of Srikant Tewari’s absence.
4. Milind (Played by Sunny Hinduja)
The character played by Sunny Hinduja was comparatively given lesser screen time, yet it created an impact. And this is the hallmark of a great actor.
Even in another acclaimed web series ‘Aspirants’, the actor left an indelible mark on the viewers through his endearing screen presence as an IAS aspirant and the protagonist’s mentor.
Sunny Hinduja has some serious, untapped talent. It would be great to see the actor as a rookie agent in a spin-off spy series.
5. Chellam (Played by Udhayabhanu Maheswaran)
We have included this character based on its immense popularity. It’s currently raging on Twitter. In fact, this character might have the potential to be India’s answer to what ‘Breaking Bad’ did with its spin-off series ‘Better Call Saul’. If done right, Chellam’s paranoid and all-knowing character has got all it takes to create an intriguing spy thriller show. Another possible worthy spin-off.
Besides these, in case you think there are some other characters that deserve to be on this list that we inadvertently missed out on, you can write your suggestions in the comments box below.
