The Family Man Season 2: A Timeline Of Controversy, Chaos & Triumph

The Family Man Season 2: A Timeline Of Controversy, Chaos & Triumph

Okay, so it’s less than 24 hours now for this year’s most awaited yet controversial show – the season 2 of The Family Man to go live on Amazon Prime Video and we must say it’s been an interesting and quite tiresome journey for the creators of the show for last 4 to 6-odd months.

All started when ‘Tandav’ faced the wrath of a certain section of audiences in January 2021 which forced The Family Man makers to postpone their season 2 to make some necessary changes in order to avoid audience agitation. People have waited patiently until around May 1st week, when the buzz has started for the trailer release of the season 2 of The Family Man.

Now, finally when the trailer arrived, in a short span of 2-3 weeks, it witnessed both the positive and negative side of criticism. Though the makers took almost 5 months to rework on their content to avoid controversies, from day one itself, the trailer and the actors especially Samantha Akkineni started facing fire from audiences. It also made us think that even when the makers of the show took their sweet time to come up with plan ‘B’ to release a cleaner version of the same, where exactly they went wrong to face such wrath of the people of a certain community? Looks like they completely missed the fact that featuring a high profile regional actress and to turn her into a terrorist from the same region, could cause a massive ‘communal tornado’ around the country.

The makers of the show finally started making statements urging people not to assume anything and to first watch the show and then decide. The actors such as Shreya Dhanwanthary, Manoj Bajpayee, Suparn Verma, the co-director of The Family Man Season 2 also joined the bandwagon to support the makers Raj & DK, when the government of Tamil Nadu wrote a letter directly to I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar seeking countrywide ban of the show. A lot of actors and artists of the Industry have protested against the ban including Samantha’s father-in-law Nagarjuna Akkineni urging people not to react in such a manner before watching the show. The things turned into such a bizarre hodge-podge that Amazon Prime Video had to issue a gag order to Samantha barring her from speaking about the show.

But there is a saying – All’s well that ends well. We feel that it’s apt for the season 2 of The Family Man because numerous protests, a massive number of chaoses were not enough to change Amazon Prime Video or the creators Raj & DK’s stand for their brain-child. Now, it’s safe to say that the art has finally triumphed over all controversies as The Family Man Season 2 is about to go live tomorrow without any further hassle (hopefully).
