Ever since The Family Man Season 2 trailer released on social media, the much awaited show has received both – immense love from fans; and immense dislike from naysayers. On the one hand, The Family Man 2 trailer has received 4.2 million views on YouTube. On the other hand, demands for a ban on the show are rising with every passing day. And each time, the ban the show demand comes from an even higher authority than before.
This time, it has gone too far. None other than the Tamil Nadu Government has demanded for a ban on The Family Man 2 – and that too, demanded it straight from the Central I&B Minister, Sri Prakash Javadekar. The letter written by the Tamil Nadu State Secretariat to the I&B Minister states that The Family Man 2 trailer depicts Tamils as terrorists, and has hurt the sentiments of the Eelam Tamils.
Through the letter, the TN Government has urged the Centre “to take immediate steps either to stop or ban the release of The Family Man 2 in OTT on Amazon Prime, not only in Tamil Nadu but also across the country since it depicts Eelam Tamils in a highly objectionable manner”.
The letter continues, “The trailer of The Family Man 2 has evoked strong and widespread opposition from the people of Tamil Nadu as well as the political parties in the state”.
Even T. Mano Thangaraj, Information Technology minister in the TN Government has stated the same on his Twitter account.

Earlier, Vaiko, Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu, had also written to Sri Prakash Javadekar, demanding a ban on The Family Man 2. Numerous people have already posted their displeasure with The Family Man 2 trailer on Twitter. The hashtag #FamilyMan2_against_Tamils has been trending on Twitter since long. The bad guys in The Family Man 2 are apparently rebels from a banned organisation. They were earlier mentioned as Tamil rebels. Samantha Akkineni is also shown to be one of the rebels. She is shown speaking Tamil, which makes her identity quite clear
However, within hours of the protests breaking out on social media, Amazon Prime Video edited out the word ‘Tamil’ and called them only ‘the rebels’. Of course, protests are simply not abating with this one simple change.
Let’s see what is the fate of The Family Man 2 after all the hullabaloo. Will it be postponed or allowed to stream as it is and taken as what it is – just a piece of fiction!
