The script for The Flash 2 is reportedly finished. However, the sequel needs to pass a box office test to receive the green light from Warner Bros. The studio is ready to release The Flash in theatres despite several production delays and the controversy surrounding the leading man, Ezra Miller. The film’s early reactions and audience’s reception are mostly positive. If it does well at the global box office, we could get its sequel in the future.
According to The Wrap, the upcoming Ezra Miller starrer must cross the worldwide box office collection of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. This scenario could pave the way for The Flash 2.
The Flash is expected to earn nearly $70 million domestically in the opening weekend. The film could easily pass The Batman’s entire collection ($770 million) within its theatrical run if all goes well.
But here’s the catch! We do not know to which superhero franchise The Flash 2 would belong if it comes out in the future. Will it be a part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU? Or will it get released as an ‘Elseworlds’ entry? We will find out soon.
David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has reportedly written the sequel’s script. He is best known for writing Aquaman (2018).
The Flash’s Tomatometer score stands at 69% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 195 reviews). On the other hand, its audience score is 95%. In addition, it has been made on a staggering budget of nearly $200-220 million. It is currently running in theatres. Stay tuned for more updates.
