Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel is not a cinematic masterpiece at all! Accept it, DCEU fans! But it does have some outstanding elements like high-octane action sequences, sensational visuals, and Hans Zimmer’s iconic score. The leading man might have fumbled a bit in his on-screen Superman debut. But there is one character in the film who deserves serious respect and recognition. Yup, we are talking about Michael Shannon’s General Zod! And he is returning in DC’s upcoming outing, The Flash.
Shannon’s performance was one of the few things that held ‘Man of Steel’ together. He shined in every scene. To this date, it is impossible to take our eyes off him while watching the Zack Snyder directional. But a large portion of the DC fanbase believes that the film did not do justice to General Zod. The character needed better characterisation and representation. He needed to be more ruthless. But this can all be achieved with ‘The Flash’.
In the upcoming Ezra Miller starrer, the Scarlet Speedster goes back in time to save his mother. But this step causes a multiversal breach, trapping him in an alternate reality with no metahumans. He enlists the help of one of his versions from another reality, Michael Keaton’s Batman, and later Supergirl, to stop General Zod.
Zod has the support of some of his fellow Kryptonians. They all got prisoned and remained inside the Phantom Zone for many years during the events of Man of Steel. Now, they have no restrictions on Earth. Plus, they are more powerful than they ever were on Krypton. And the best part, there is no Superman to stop them. Keaton’s Batman is not strong and stupid enough to even think about taking him down. As for Supergirl, she is locked inside a government facility. This scenario will make Zod’s job very easy. He will be deadlier than his ‘Man of Steel’ version this time. Plus, Andy Muschietti can right all the wrongs that happened with Zod in his previous on-screen appearance. Viewers may see a more ruthless version of General Zod in ‘The Flash’. And that’s exactly what the fans want.
Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash stars Ezra Miller, Michael Shannon, Sasha Calle, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdu, Kiersey Clemons, and Michael Keaton. It will come out globally on June 16. Stay tuned for more updates.
