Disney+ is bringing back the BAFTA winning comedy film ‘The Full Monty’ as a limited TV series with original cast retuning 25 years later. To be made as an eight part series ‘The Full Monty’ will be available globally on Disney+, on Star+ in Latin America and on Hulu in the U.S.
Set in 1990s Sheffield, England, ‘The Full Monty’ is a comedy drama film that follows a group of unemployed men who after the shutdown of the steel factory they worked in, turn to stripping to earn money.
As per reports, the new TV version of ‘The Full Monty’ will follow the same group of people as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield and society’s crumbling healthcare, education and employment sectors. The series will explore the brighter, sillier and more humane way forward where communal effort can still triumph over adversity.
Along with a whole new cast of children and grandchildren, ‘The Full Monty’ TV series at Disney+ will also have the original lead cast retuning. These include Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, Once Upon A Time), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones, A Knight’s Tale), Lesley Sharp (Before We Die, Scott and Bailey), Hugo Speer (Britannia, Shadow and Bone), Paul Barber (The Dumping Ground, Gloves Off), Steve Huison (The Royle Family, The Navigators), Wim Snape (The Beaker Girls, Gentleman Jack) and Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins, Michael Clayton).
Other than the cast, the retuning crew members are original film’s Academy Award winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) who serves the creator, writer and executive producer for the new series and reunites with producer Uberto Pasolini (Nowhere Special).
Alice Nutter is the co-write for Disney+’s ‘The Full Monty’ with Simon Lewis as its series producer. Searchlight Television and FX have developed the show that is being produced by Little Island Productions and executive produced by Lee Mason.
‘The Full Monty’ TV series at Disney+ will be directed by Andrew Chaplin (Alma’s Not Normal) and Catherine Morshead (No Offence). The production has now begun in Sheffield and Manchester.
