Remember the Christopher Nolan funny trolls regarding how he always prefers practical effects over the usual CGI that other filmmakers use? Well, they aren’t just fun anymore, because Nolan really went ahead and did the unexpected. The man just recreated a nuclear weapon detonation for his next film! Committed much?
Nolan is not your typical filmmaker. He wants things in his films to be authentic. Some of such things he’s done would be using a real plane in the ‘Tenet’ movie’s scene where we see a plane crashing into a building. He reportedly tried doing the scene using visual effects but it didn’t look ‘real enough’ for him. An even better instance would be regarding the corn fields in ‘Interstellar’, around Matthew McConaughey’s home. The maverick director planted all those corn just for the film and to take things a tad further, after the filming ended, sold the corn and made a profit as well! Yes, we’d have a laughing emoji here if it was possible.
It was expected that he would continue his love for practical effects for his next film as well. And what was his next film? ‘Oppenheimer’- about the man who contributed significantly to the creation of the atomic bomb.

Jokes aside, the commitment the man has towards his filmmaking is applaudable. He’s given us gems like ‘Interstellar’, ‘Inception’, ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy and from what little we know, ‘Oppenheimer’ is looking worth the wait. With an ensemble star cast led by Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh, it’s not an exaggeration to say the movie’s star cast is reason enough besides Nolan to watch the film on the first day.
The film is Nolan’s first film after departure from a long collaboration with Warner Bros, after the disagreement they had regarding their last year’s simultaneous release strategy of ‘Tenet’.
‘Oppenheimer’ is set to release in theatres on July 21, 2023.
