George Clooney is making his comeback after a hiatus and also making his digital debut with Netflix, in the film The Midnight Sky. The movie is the adaptation of the novel called “Good Morning, Midnight” by Lily Brooks-Dalton. Clooney is not only acting but also is known to be directing and producing this movie. The movie is a sci-fi movie that will revolve around the earth in the post-apocalyptic stage. The visuals, the cinematography, the veteran actors are not just the only subjects that will connect you to the movie but also the fact that it resonates so much with the present reality will be a really grave realisation.
The movie is about a scientist who is surviving in the polar region of the earth and is trying to make contact with a spaceship that is supposed to return home to our beautiful earth. But the scientists and astronauts aboard the spaceship have no idea what earth has gone through after they left two years ago. It is the sole responsibility of the scientist on earth to make them aware of the earth’s dangerous post apocalyptic condition and to find a place that will be habitable for the coming human race, if there’s any left of it besides the people on board and the earth itself. The near inhabitable conditions of the earth is making it difficult day in and day out and there needs to be an immediate solution.
The movie wrapped up filming in the early months of 2020. As the movie was supposed to go into post-production, the great COVID-19 pandemic befell on us and everyone was put into isolation. Every piece of noise calmed down and the world lacked the human touch that it easily felt. This is what moved George Clooney to release the movie as soon as possible, because the conditions reflected in the movie, the want of human touch, the feeling of meeting people and the feeling of isolation are all something that people felt everywhere in this world and is very well described in his movie. According to one of his interviews, he didn’t want to delay it anymore and made arrangements as soon as possible.
The film is believed to resonate with people at this stage now, a lot. When more than half of the world has suffered and everyone knows the consequences now, people will be able to know more and relate to what can actually happen in the coming years. No one expected a pandemic to spread out so soon and almost eat up an entire year out of people’s lives but it did and it did in the very century and year when people had the notion that science has progressed a lot. Even now, scientists are looking and producing the vaccines which means the solution isn’t out yet. This also means that at this rate anything could be expected from the world. An apocalypse like situation can very well be imagined.
