The duo of Paul Rudd (Ant-Man films) and Amy Adams (American Hustle) has sealed the deal with FilmNation to star in its upcoming comedy flick, The Invite, based on the 2020 Spanish movie, Sentimental, helmed by Cesc Gay. Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton will direct the forthcoming comedy. Apart from the leading duo, Tessa Thomspon (Creed franchise) has joined the film’s cast. Deadline first broke this news.
The film revolves around Angela (Adams) and Joe (Rudd), who struggle to protect their relationship after 15 years of marriage. To divert their conversation away from their marital issues, Angela invites their boisterous neighbours, Shane and Kayla (Thompson), over for drinks. Joe decides to confront them as he finds them disruptive. However, things take an unexpected turn after he and Angela discover that Kayla and Shane are hosting weekly orgies and offer them an invitation, leaving Joe and Angela flabbergasted.
The directional duo of Faris and Dayton is best known for helming Little Miss Sunshine (2006), Ruby Sparks (2012), Battle of the Sexes (2017), and Living with Yourself (2019).
The script for The Invite has been penned down by Oscar-winner Will McCormack and Emmy nominee Rashida Jones. FilmNation Entertainment and Permut Presentations will jointly produce the forthcoming comedy.
Paul Rudd recently led Marvel Studios’ ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumanina’, which bombed at the global box office and received a lukewarm reception from critics and MCU fans. We will see the actor lending his voice in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ as Mondo Gecko and reprising his character of Gary Grooberson in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel. On the other hand, Amy Adams’ last feature project was Disenchanted (available on Disney+ Hotstar). She is also leading Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch, scheduled to release on Hulu this year.
FilmNation has not yet revealed the release window of The Invite. Stay tuned for more updates.
