Ardent movie buffs might already be aware that Matthew Vaughn’s eagerly anticipated period spy film ‘The King’s Man’ is all geared up to release theatrically elsewhere on 22nd December 2021. However, as per the latest announcement by 20th Century Studios India, ‘The King’s Man’ is now scheduled to release in Indian cinemas on 14th January 2022 in English and Hindi languages.
Incidentally, on the same date, that is, 14th January 2022, the highly anticipated Prabhas starrer movie ‘Radhe Shyam’ is also slated for its grand theatrical release. Although ‘The King’s Man’ might have its own niche target audience, but the box office clash with ‘Radhe Shyam’ might nevertheless affect the film’s overall performance in the Indian market.
‘The King’s Man’ is a period prequel to the titular film series namely ‘Kingsman: Secret Service’ (2014) and ‘Kingman: The Golden Circle’ (2017). Based on the comic book titled ‘The Secret Service’, the film is set in the early 20th Century period and revolves around how the first independent intelligence Kingsman agency was instituted to avert an evil plan to eliminate millions by criminal masterminds.
The film features an ensemble cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Harris Dickinson, and Dimon Hounsou in important roles. The earlier Kingsman films were generally admired for their slick action sequences, gripping screenplay, premium production values, and entertaining performances. So, it would be interesting to see whether ‘The King’s Man’ would live up to the standards set by its predecessors.
Before ‘The King’s Man’, the most recent film of 20th Century Studios to be released in Indian theatres was Steven Spielberg’s musical ‘West Side Story’, which came out on 10th December. However, the film performed less than what was expected at the box office despite numerous favorable reviews.
