Ever since HBO’s widely admired post-apocalyptic horror series ‘The Last Of Us’ concluded its first season run, fans have been eagerly waiting for its second season, which was already renewed earlier and will premiere in 2025. Season-1 got a phenomenal response from critics and audiences alike and bagged eight Primetime Emmy Awards.
And ‘The Last Of Us’ Season-2 has just got bigger and better. Because as per the latest update, the makers have roped in English filmmaker Mark Mylod, who is fresh off the heels after directing the highly rated award-winning episode ‘Connor’s Wedding’ from the fourth and final season of ‘Succession’. Besides, Mark Mylod has also directed several episodes of ‘Game Of Thrones’ and the critically acclaimed comedy horror movie ‘The Menu’. So, to hire a director of Mark Mylod’s calibre is a big deal for ‘The Last Of Us S2’.
Other than Mark Mylod, three more new directors has been enlisted to direct episodes of ‘The Last Of Us S2’. They are Nina Lopez-Corrado (The Mentalist, Manifest, Perry Mason), Stephen Williams (Lost, Person Of Interest, Westworld, Watchmen), and Kate Heron (Sex Education, Loki). Like Season-1, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are also expected to return to directorial duties for Season-2 as well.
Another reason about why ‘The Last Of Us S2’ can be expected to be bigger and better is that the new season will be set in Vancouver and is expected to have a lot more zombie scenes because a segment of viewers was rather discontented with the fact that the first season had long parts featuring the dreaded clickers. So, we can expect a lot more horror in Season-2.
As you can see above, the creative team behind ‘The Last Of Us’ Season-2 are leaving no stone unturned for the series. Kaitlyn Denver, Young Mazino, and Isabela Merced have also joined the existing cast. Kaitlyn Denver will be seen in the role of an important character Abby, who acted as a parallel playable protagonist and antagonist in the video game and wants to avenge her father’s death.
‘The Last of Us’ series revolves around two characters Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and is set in the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world affected by a mass fungal infection. The basic premise is that Joel, a hardened smuggler, is hired to transport a teenager Ellie across the country, while protecting her from omnipresent dangers.
