Are you guys ready to break your hearts? If you have played Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us video game, then you already know what to expect from the upcoming Season 2 of HBO’s live-action adaptation. Yeah, we all will be needing tissues…
We should expect Season 2 to come out in February 2025. Season 1 finished filming in July 2022 and was released in January 2023. If we use this as a guide and take into account that filming for season 2 has just ended, we can expect the new season to be released around February 2025. Or we could witness 7-8 months of post-production stage instead of 6 months as the upcoming season will surely be bigger than the first one, a scenario that could push back Season 2’s release to March or April 2025.
What about Season 2’s storyline? Well, the second entry will end up adapting only half of Part 2 of the Naughty Dog’s video game, as Part 2 is a bigger and longer game than the first one. There are many theories about how Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann might approach the story for the forthcoming season. Some say that Joel will die in the early episodes of Season 2, but he will keep popping up throughout the season via flashbacks. This scenario will give more spotlight to the character development of both Ellie and Abby. Another fan theory suggests that the second season may get split into two parts: a part explained from Ellie’s perspective and the remaining one explained from Abby’s perspective. Or we could just get a simple straightforward adaptation.
Fans’ expectations for The Last of Us Season 2 have reached the zenith. And we can’t blame them! As for Kaitlyn Dever, she better put some shields on, considering what her character “does” to Joel in Part 2 of the video game. She will surely receive tons of hate from the fanbase as we go near Season 2’s release window. Her co-star, Isabela Merced has already revealed the lengths to which HBO went to provide extra security to the actor during the filming of Season 2. Reportedly, a large portion of the video game’s fanbase “genuinely” hates Abby, the person responsible for brutally killing Joel. Whoa! We so don’t want to be in Dever’s position right now!
