With less than a week left of its grand release on the Disney+ streaming platform, The Mandalorian Season 3 must avoid this horrible Star Wars trend or ritual to emerge victorious and win the hearts of fans across the globe. Want to know more? Let’s dive deep into this mess!
The first Star Wars feature, A New Hope (1977), was nothing short of a space miracle for cinephiles back then. Yes, the original film trilogy still ranks first in the hearts of fans when compared to the prequel and sequel trilogies. Yet, the signs of stagnation were visible in the original trilogy as it concluded with ‘Return of the Jedi’ (1983). The prequel trilogy tried its best to recapture the feel of its predecessor. But it never reached the heights of the original Star Wars series in terms of critical and audience reception. And it is best not to talk about the sequel trilogy.
So, the question is: Why does ‘Star Wars’ keep playing safe? Whenever something works for the space opera franchise, it starts relying on it heavily and keeps using that ‘something’ until it becomes completely stagnant.
The first season of The Mandalorian was a surprising but welcome addition to the Star Wars universe. It became globally successful because of playing gambles on several new elements like the show’s improved focus on character development, innovative episodic format, inspiration from Western settings, and most importantly, Baby Yoda. Let’s face it, guys! A large part of the show’s viewership relies on Grogu and his cute shenanigans. Yup, they indeed look cute and successfully melt viewers’ hearts. However, the showrunners need to keep a close eye on Grogu. Depending too much on his cuteness may ruin fans’ viewing experience. His shenanigans are starting to feel a bit old now.
Another thing Season 3 can do is not attack fans again with heavy doses of nostalgia like the previous season. Yes, the appearances of Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka worked just fine in the second season. But their re-appearance in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ felt a bit stagnant. Additionally, both characters, along with Din Djarin and Grogu, stole all the limelight from poor Boba Fett in the show. That’s why the upcoming Mandalorian season must be careful while dealing with the case of ‘bringing back fan-favourite characters’.
The Mandalorian Season 3 will release on Disney+ on March 1. As for Indian viewers, they can watch the brand new season on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
