The latest trailer of ‘The Marvels’ showcased the return of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and the cinematic debut of Teynoah Parris’ Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel. Alongside the “wildly unexpected but intriguing” trio, we also witness the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Another thing the latest clip displays is the sequel’s villain. Yup, Zawe Ashton is playing the baddie this time! What do we know about her character in the movie? Let’s find out!
Ashton joined the Captain Marvel sequel’s cast in 2021. She dons dark colours and wields a weapon like Ronan the Accuser had in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). We can see her coming out of a group of Kree soldiers in one of the scenes from the trailer. She takes on the leading trio and attacks them with ‘Captain Marvel-like’ beams generated from her vambrace.
It looks like Ashton’s character is leading the Kree soldiers in the film. Does she have any connection with Ronan? How the hell did she get his hammer, the Universal Weapon?
In the comics, Ronan married Crystal, an Inhuman princess, and had a son with her, Taryan. Plus, the MCU has gender-swapped several notable characters in the past, including Taskmaster and Ajak. It is possible that the superhero franchise may have played the gender-swap card on Ashton’s character in the sequel. In addition, her skin is not blue. She looks more human as compared to conventional Kree people. She must have received her human appearance from her mother, Crystal. If this theory becomes true in the upcoming Marvel project, then we may get an Inhumans project in future.
Besides the first GOTG instalment, Ronan briefly appeared in Captain Marvel (2019). The events of the first film take place in 1995. A lot of time has passed after the film’s events, enough for Ronan’s child to grow into an adult. Do not forget, this is just a theory, folks!
