The journey of “The Marvels” has indeed been a mixed one. From the very beginning, people were really skeptical about the film, but after its premiere, it was followed up by great reviews. However, as it got its release, the underwhelming part of the journey again resurfaced.
Though the story is pointed out as ‘short and sweet,’ people aren’t really watching it. The box office numbers are practically abysmal as of now, and as people thought, an MCU movie can never fail, it just did.
“The Marvels” managed to make a disappointing $10.2M over the weekends, but what is more conceding is the drop in ticket sales.
“The Marvels” saw a drop of 79% and managed to capture the record of the worst drop in the second week by any comic book movie. Even in terms of MCU terms, it dethrones the record of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”
In terms of any comic book films, it also dethrones the record of the notorious “Morbius” (-73.8) and “The Flash” (-72.5) along the road.
With a $270M price tag, but as the projection is saying, it will struggle to cross the $250M mark, making it the lightest grossing MCU film ever. Also, with the bad opening, it also previously made the record of the worst opening by an MCU movie.
But one positive aspect that comes out of the fact that Marvel is backing their female stars. They are not backing off the fact that Captain Marvel will stay as one of the pivotal stars of the future of the Avengers, and possibly, we can agree that this fall happened for good; even Gods fail once in a while.
