Yep, you read that right. The Indian OTT platform, Zee5 is going to set up shop in America – “The land of Virtual TV”, in a few weeks. The streaming platform has already released their beta version of the much awaited OTT platform in the “land of the brave, home of the free” (yeah, that sounded cringe as we typed it), almost a week ago. Again. Yes, you read that right. Aside from a tweet from the official Twitter account of the Zee5 USA, 6 days ago, there hasn’t been much noise coming out of the Zee5 camp. But we expect the silence to change, real soon.
But everything aside, this has been a much-awaited launch that both Indians and Americans alike have been waiting for. In an industry dominated by Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, it is nice to see that an Indian OTT platform can make it work, out on the international market. And Zee5 has done exactly that. Now we will have to see how it will fare in the American market.
Zee5 originally launched in India and around the world in the year 2018, with a plan to have an international presence by being available in 190 countries. The streaming platform managed to do exactly that with the OTT platform managing to make the platform available in various international languages as well. With over 100 million active monthly users, Zee5 managed to achieve something very few OTT platforms have managed. And now the launch in the US is just icing on the cake.
Zee5 is available in the US for USD 6.99 per month while costing USD 49.99 for an annual plan. The platform is also available on most Smart TVs, Android, Windows and iPhone app stores as well.
