One controversy can have the power to form several noises and voices which follows the law of chaos theory. The issue regarding the latest Netflix web series ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack’ is still on track and this time the constraint is raised by the representation from media.
Popular news agency ANI has filed a lawsuit against Netflix and its producers for the series which tells the story of the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight, from Kathmandu. Their claim of fair demand to remove the four episodes for allegedly using the agency’s news footage without authorization. As said above, it has been facing severe backlashes and controversies since last month.
This is very serious as it is related to the Copyright Act, where the makers have used the copyrighted archival footage of ANI without license or permission. Also, the makers will have to face the consequences of the Trademark Act which was earlier talked about in the ‘Aashiqui’ term issue. (Vishesh films vs T-Series). Also, ANI has been raised that there has been an ‘overuse’ of their footage which would thereby affect the agency’s brand value and reputation respectively.
As per credible sources, the ANI has requested Netflix to remove the four episodes that include their content. As per the defense counsel, the footage utilized in the series was acquired from two different companies with a total payment of one crore in rupees. However, the Delhi High Court has agreed to review the matter and has requested Netflix’s response.
