Bonnie Aarons gained international fame from playing the demonic nun in one of the films from The Conjuring Universe, The Nun (2018). The actor has sued Warner Bros for allegedly not paying her the ‘true amount of her rightful share’.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the studio paid Aarons a fixed salary of $71,500, combined with a bonus of $175,000 due to the film’s exceptional box office performance. However, they hid the actual amount they made from selling the merchandise featuring her character from ‘The Nun’. The movie collected nearly $365 million against its $22 million budget during its theatrical run.
The lawsuit sheds light on a stipulation in her contract stating she should receive “a share of Warner Bros’ gross receipts from merchandise exploiting Ms Aarons’ likeness”. It also focuses on the fact that Aaron’s physical features have been utilised for creating The Nun’s face without prosthetics or CGI. This scenario makes her significance to the overall franchise ‘undeniable’.
According to the complaint mentioned in Aarons’ lawsuit, the actor was supposed to receive a “pro-rata share of 5% of 50% of the gross receipts” from the licensing of merchandising rights. The merchandise, encompassing toys, socks, T-shirts, decorations, jewellery, and more, have used her likeness.
The Nun serves as a spin-off of The Conjuring (2016), starring Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Bonnie Aarons, and more. You can watch the film on Jio Cinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
