FX’s well-received action thriller show ‘The Old Man‘ has been renewed for Season 2 at the network. The seven-episode show premiered on FX on June 16. Two episodes aired on the platform at the premiere of the show, to be followed by one episode per week for the next five episodes. Now, the show has been renewed for a second season at FX even though only three episodes have aired as yet. The Old Man also streams on Hulu in the USA, and on Disney Plus in countries that don’t have FX or Hulu.
In India, ‘The Old Man’ was to stream on Disney Plus Hotstar, with episodes releasing alongside their US release. Disney Plus Hotstar had also put out communication to that effect. But June 16 has come and gone, and there’s no sign of ‘The Old Man’ streaming in India yet. Queries on Disney Plus Hotstar’s support handle are met with a standard, auto-generated reply, “Due to unforeseen circumstances the premiere of The Old Man is delayed. Stay Tuned for more information on this.” Disney Plus Hotstar has been furnishing the same reply since June 16, when the show was to originally premiere on the platform.
Let’s see how long we’ll have to wait for ‘The Old Man’ to premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar in India. We think the problem lies in the local languages dubbing of the show, which is why it has been delayed. Viewers in India routinely demand local language dubs of English shows, most popular demands being for Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubs. Dubbing Hollywood content in local languages is always a challenge, what with paucity of good dubbing artists, and the overload of content on multiple platforms.
The Old Man has raked in impressive viewing figures for FX ever since its debut. The series stars veteran actor Jeff Bridges as a former CIA operative, Dan Chase, who’s absconded from the CIA, and living off the grid for 30 years. His explosive past revisits him when he’s ambushed by an assassin whom he is forced to kill. On the run from a renewed hunt for him by the CIA, Chase realises he can no longer run from his past.
The Old Man stars John Lithgow, E. J. Bonilla, Bill Heck, Leem Lubany, Alia Shawkat, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Amy Brenneman, among others, alongside Jeff Bridges. The thriller is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Thomas Perry.
We hope the show arrives on Disney Plus Hotstar sooner rather than later. In the meantime, have a look at the trailer for ‘The Old Man’ here –
