After dropping the first look of Beverly Hills Cop 4, starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, Empire Magazine has unveiled the first look of the upcoming HBO Max series, The Penguin, featuring Colin Farrell as the iconic DC villain.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman was not as sensational as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. But it did its job brilliantly, which was to build a whole new world of Gotham. Reeves’ version of the crime-ridden city was rife with too much oppressiveness, darkness and corruption, perfectly laying the foundation of the city’s criminal underworld. While Robert Pattinson’s Batman mostly dealt with Paul Dano’s Riddler in the film, he also encountered Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. The movie’s final moments show Farrell’s Penguin sitting alone in a room. It was clever of Reeves to use that scene as it teased the character’s great future in ‘The Batman’ franchise.
The Batman Part II is expected to arrive in theatres in late 2025. And the forthcoming ‘The Penguin’ series is being considered as the next chapter in ‘The Batman’ franchise. So, the events of the forthcoming Max series could build up Part II.

Apart from Farrell, the series will have Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother fame) as Sofia Falcone, daughter of Carmine Falcone (played by John Turturro in the 2022 film). We should expect Penguin to use the leftovers of Carmine’s criminal empire to create his own criminal empire in the series. But his journey will not be easy, as Sofia will look to do the same as well, along with trying to seek revenge for her father’s death.
The Penguin series is expected to premiere in late 2024 on HBO Max. For Indian viewers, the show may arrive at Jio Cinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
