In a delightful update for diehard action movie buffs, a reimagining of the immensely popular and brilliantly executed 2011 Indonesian action thriller flick ‘The Raid’ is reportedly (via Deadline) in the works with OTT giant Netflix aboard. The parent film’s director Gareth Evans is teaming up with Michael Bay and Patrick Hughes for the highly anticipated remake.
Prolific filmmaker Michael Bay, who is globally renowned for directing blockbuster action-packed films such as ‘The Rock’, ‘Armageddon’, ‘Transformers’ films, and the most recent ‘6 Underground’, will co-produce the film. While the directorial reigns for the remake are being handed over to another action films’ specialist Patrick Hughes, who has films like ‘The Expendables 3’, ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ and its sequel under his belt.
The 2011 film ‘The Raid’ features Indonesian actor Iko Uwais as a newly recruited member named Rama of an elite SWAT team in the Indonesian capital Jakarta. The 20-man squad is assigned the arduous task to infiltrate a high-rise safe house controlled by a merciless crime lord called Tama. But soon Rama and his team find themselves outnumbered and trapped and must fight the building’s ruthless resident criminals to complete the mission and, more importantly, to save their lives.
‘The Raid’ remake will be set amidst the backdrop of Philadelphia’s drug-infested landscape instead of Indonesian slums and will follow a DEA taskforce’s mission to nab an elusive and powerful criminal.
The success of the parent film had led to its sequel’s release titled ‘The Raid 2’ in 2015. Moreover, talks of ‘The Raid’ remake began way back in the year 2011, and later, names like Chris Hemsworth, Liam Hemsworth, Fran Grillo, and Taylor Kitch had cropped up to star in the film. With big names like Michael Bay, Gareth Evans, and Patrick Hughes attached with ‘The Raid’ remake, action aficionados can expect a sufficient dose of adrenaline-fueled high-octane action.
