‘The Ritual’ is a British horror film that came out in 2017. It is directed by David Bruckner and written by Joe Burton. It is adapted from the novel of the same name by Adam Nevill that was published in 2011. The film is available to watch on Netflix.
The film tells the story of a group of friends who go to the deserted jungles of Sweden. The college friends reunite there and try to mend whatever problems they had in their relationships. However, the trip does not go as per their plans and they are haunted by a shocking presence in the jungle. And things turn out to be scarier than they could ever imagine.
There are actors like Rafe Spall, Arsher Ali, Robert James-Collier, Sam Troughton, Paul Reid, Maria Erwolter, Hilary Reeves and Francesca Mula in the leading roles. Cinematography of the film is handled by Andrew Shulkind and the music is composed by Ben Lovett. The performances are quite good and the movie is pretty well executed. It runs for one hour and thirty four minutes and keeps you engaged till tbe very end.
The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017 and was appreciated for its storytelling at the time of its release. However it did not get the recognition that it deserves.
