Amitabh Bachchan, The three Khans, Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif and so many more come together to star in a documentary about their films. It is an instant spark to raise the temptation level of every cinephile and especially those typical Bollywood lovers.
Alas, it is not the case with The Romantics. The documentary was promoted well, it was really well-made but somehow, a lot of people failed to connect with it. There can be many reasons behind it, but one prominent one has to be dubbing.
The whole documentary was shot in English and the Hindi dubbing could never be done. The main magnetic factor behind the documentary was the stars, if people can’t listen to their stars in their original voice then it is naturally a major turn-off.
Some people also called it out and yes, it should have been shot in Hindi. After all, the documentary features stars of the Hindi film industry talking about Hindi cinema. It was a wrong decision, to begin with.
Several media outlets called out the documentary as a high-budget PR for Yash Raj Films which can be indeed a sensical accusation.
But even after all these factors, Netflix India must look into the reasons The Romantics failed to garner a huge audience on their platform.
The documentary was second to “Class” in India. It also failed to get featured in the Global charts of the Netflix series.
