Normally, documentaries stay limited to a very niche and elite audience of cinephiles. They transcend the boundary to reach a wider audience only if there is a controversy involved in it. The upcoming documentary on Netflix doesn’t fall in that category.
We all know that Netflix is famous for making great documentaries. They have done some astonishing and groundbreaking work in the same genre. They have done some really good jobs in India as well but they couldn’t attract a lot of people who would watch them. This was the case with the less than 40 minutes long Oscar-nominated documentary “The Elephant Whisperers”.
But it looks like the complaint is going to end. On the occasion of Valentine’s day, Netflix is coming up with a documentary called “The Documentary”. It has giant superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, the Three Khans, Hrithik Roshan and so many more. Overall, the documentary is a much-wanted assembly of Bollywood superstars who have an immense fanbase.
Also, they will be talking about the legacy of Yash Chopra and his way of making films. This is going to be an interesting documentary that has great potential to be a blockbuster.
The Romantics, even after a bunch of superstars, need a lot of promotion. Netflix doesn’t seem to be solving that problem which it should be doing. The success of documentaries depends a lot on the performance of The Romantics as it will promote Netflix to do a lot more in this genre. So this mammoth assembly of stars is too important a documentary for Netflix.
