It’s a highly popular opinion that documentaries are not popular in India. But, The Tinder Swindler is proving all the notions wrong. For about two weeks now, the film has maintained itself in top 5 most viewed films in India.
It is a well-known fact that Netflix is the home of some of the best documentaries and they are well aware of how to create suspense and thrill in it.
Last year, Netflix came with House Of Secrets: The Burari Deaths that was eerie and became a one stop destination for most memes being made that time.
The Tinder Swindler is repeating a similar success with a niche audience. Thus it is no wonder that Indian fans want true documentaries based in India.
Needless to say, there are a lot of stories that are worth covering and there can be an insanely huge amount of content in the country.
The data from last week clearly says that The Tinder Swindler was the third most watched movie in India.
It revolved around a man called Simon Leviev who would use Tinder to contact and emotionally manipulate girls to ask for financial support. This way he successfully conned many women until they decided to nab him.
Long story short, if such stories are getting popular then in India we have tons of them. It’s high time we deserve more documentaries.
