Diehard OTT enthusiasts might already be aware that OTT giant Netflix had launched a website that houses weekly top ten lists based on the metrics of the total number of hours viewed for a particular title. The portal provides viewership data under four categories namely ‘Films (English)’, ‘Films (Non-English)’, ‘TV (English)’, and ‘TV (Non-English)’.
As per the latest weekly viewership data revealed by Netflix, the third season of the Emmy-nominated superhero show ‘The Umbrella Academy’ has surpassed the acclaimed supernatural series ‘Stranger Things’ Season-4 in the English language TV shows category and that too by a huge margin. ‘The Umbrella Academy: Season 3’ has been watched for almost 125 million hours on Netflix during the 20-26 June week since its release on 22nd June on the OTT platform.
And outranking a globally admired show like ‘Stranger Things’ is no mean feat because the Duffer brothers’ show had previously registered a massive 335 million hours, 159.2 million hours, 102.26 million hours, and 76.9 million hours during the first, second, third, and the fourth weeks, respectively. Also, the global popularity of ‘Stranger Things’ can be ascertained by the fact that the fourth season was viewed for a whopping 930.3 million hours in the first 28 days on Netflix and it’s still the undisputed champ in that category on Netflix. Before ‘The Umbrella Academy S3’, ‘Stranger Things S4’ was the top ranked TV Show on Netflix consecutively for four weeks and now holds the second spot.
Besides ‘The Umbrella Academy S3’ and ‘Stranger Things S4’, other shows which have made it to the Netflix top 10 weekly list are the first three seasons of ‘Strangers Things’, ‘Peaky Blinders S6’, ‘The Umbrella Academy S1’, and ‘Man Vs Bee’, amongst others.
Based on Gerard Way’s comic book series of the same name, ‘The Umbrella Academy’ revolves around the daredevil adventures of a group of estranged superhero siblings. While dealing with their complex inter relationships, the superhero family team up to save the world. Season-3 of the show also focuses on Umbrella Academy’s face-off with another Hargreeves superhero group known as the Sparrow Academy.
