Netflix has confirmed that the much-anticipated ‘The Umbrella Academy’ spin-off series, The Sparrow Academy, is no longer in the works. Serving as a rival group to The Umbrella Academy, The Sparrow Academy first popped up in Season 3. The group features talents like Ben (Justin H. Min), Marcus (Justin Cornwell), Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez), Fei (Britne Oldford), Alphonso (Jake Epstein), Jayme (Cazzie David), and Christopher.
Season 4 will serve as the final chapter of ‘The Umbrella Academy’. It marks the show’s end. Now, the streaming service is not moving forward with the long-rumored spin-off project. Rolling Stone first broke this news.
‘The Sparrow Academy’ would have focused on the tale of seven children, born on the same day and later adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves. Their introduction stemmed from a change in the timeline caused by their respective counterparts, The Umbrella Academy. Both groups share plenty of similarities. However, Hargreeves believes that his new children possess abilities far exceeding those of the characters from the original group.
Netflix’s last announcement about ‘The Sparrow Academy’ came out in early 2023, back when the streamer revealed that the spin-off was in the developmental stage.
Rolling Stone’s latest report alleges a “hostile environment” contributed to the cancellation of “The Sparrow Academy.” The veracity of this claim remains unclear. Stay tuned for more updates.
