Rahul V. Chittella’s feature film directorial debut ‘Gulmohar’ is all set to start streaming on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform this Friday, that is, from 3rd March onwards. The family drama movie features the trio of wonderful actors namely Sharmila Tagore, Manoj Bajpayee, and Amol Palekar alongside BAFTA nominated actor Suraj Sharma (of Ange Lee’s ‘Life of Pie’ fame).
From whatever is known about ‘Gulmohar’ until now, the film seems to be an intense yet feel-good and straightforward family drama. But as per a recent revelation by Indian actor Gulshan Devaiah (Duranga, Badhaai Do), it looks like there is more to the film’s story than meets the eye.
The actor, who has apparently seen the upcoming film, has spilled the beans about ‘Gulmohar’ that besides being a wonderful story about a family, the story has got some unexpected twists as well. And surprise: there is also a villain in the film and the role will be played by none other than Amol Palekar. We don’t know yet whether ‘villain’ is the right word for his character or maybe it’s a role bearing a grey or negative shade.
And if the revelation indeed turns out to be true, ‘Gulmohar’ would not be the first time the ‘Golmaal’ actor would be playing a role with a negative shade. Previously, Amol Palekar has essayed several negative roles in films such as ‘Gharonda’, ‘Tarang’, ‘Agni-Pariksha’, ‘Khamosh’, ‘Akriet’, ‘Ankahee’, and ‘Adami Aur Aurat’. Recently, the consummate performer was aptly cast in Shahid Kapoor’s Amazon Prime Video crime thriller web series ‘Farzi’.
So, the latest revelation about Disney+ Hotstar’s forthcoming film ‘Gulmohar’ has enhanced the curiosity quotient around the film. The movie’s underlying plot revolves around the last four days spent by the Delhi-based Batra family in their old home and around the relationships amongst the family members.
