Last month, we made our readers aware that the first book of eminent Indian author Amish Tripathi’s genre-defining ‘Shiva Trilogy’ book series ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ is all set to be adapted into a series titled ‘Shiva’. The highly anticipated series will be directed by none other than the globally renowned Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur (Director – ‘Masoom’, Mr. India’, ‘Bandit Queen’, ‘Elizabeth’).
Besides Shekhar Kapur, also attached to the ‘Shiva Trilogy’ series adaptation as its showrunner and director is Suparn S. Varma, who had recently co-directed Amazon Prime Video ‘The Family Man Season 2’.
And now, in another exciting update, the creators of the high-profile show have reportedly (via Mid-Day) started the casting process. As per the report, popular Indian actresses Kriti Sanon and Shraddha Kapoor are in talks to play the female lead role of Sati in the series adaptation ‘Shiva’. Discussions with the two actresses are already underway for the past two months.
In the Shiva Trilogy book series, besides the titular protagonist Shiva, one of the most important characters is Shiva’s love interest and the brave Meluhan princess – Sati. She is portrayed as the daughter of the powerful emperor of the Meluhans but is considered untouchable. Throughout the three books, Sati’s character significantly contributes to the storyline, and being a skilled warrior herself, she has many action sequences as well.
Out of Kriti Sanon and Shraddha Kapoor, which actress would finally be shortlisted for Sati’s crucial role is yet to be confirmed. But needless to say, whoever bags the coveted role in ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ series adaptation, it will certainly prove to be a turning point in their respective acting careers.
For the unversed, Amish Tripathi’s first book of the Shiva Trilogy – ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ is set in 1900 BC and narrates the story of a rugged but well-intentioned Tibetan immigrant named Shiva and how he becomes the beacon of hope and a savior for the Meluhans in their war against the Chandravanshis. The bestselling book was followed by ‘The Secret of the Nagas’ and ‘The Oath of the Vayuputras’.
Some of you might already be aware of the fact that filmmaker Karan Johar had bought the rights to ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ in the year 2014 but the ambitious big-screen adaptation didn’t move forward on account of fear of repercussions. Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan was in talks to star as the protagonist Shiva. Now, International Art Machine is behind the latest Shiva Trilogy mythological series adaptation.
However, as of now, there is still no news regarding which male actor will play the lead role of Shiva in the ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ series adaptation.
