Theaters are back and it’s a Triple Bonanza! After a three-month long hiatus, theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are scheduled to reopen on 30th July, with the screening of much awaited Telugu films- ‘Thimmarusu’, ‘Ishq’ and ‘Narasimhapuram’. Theatres in Telangana have been permitted to have 100% occupancy, while Andhra Pradesh will allow 50% occupancy with alternate seating. With a total of 5 releases this Friday, the other two being ‘Parigettu Parigettu’ and ‘Trayam’, viewers are in for a treat!
‘Thimmarusu‘ producer Mahesh Koneru, says the team did not consider a digital release and were waiting for theatres to reopen. The legal thriller starring Satya Dev and Priyanka Jawalkar, directed by Sharan Koppisetty, is a remake of the 2019 Kannada film ‘Birbal’. “Our film was ready for release in May and we waited till the second wave of COVID-19 subsided and the situation was conducive for theatres to reopen,” says Koneru.
If not for the intense 2nd wave, this summer would have witnessed star-studded releases, including the Chiranjeevi-starrer ‘Acharya‘. ‘Vakeel Saab’ was the last major release before theaters had to shut down.
Says N V Prasad, one of the producers of ‘Ishq’, “AP has night-time restrictions and theatres will have to end the last show before 10 p.m. However, we are happy to take our film to the theatres; I believe that digital platforms cannot match the theatrical viewing experience.” The film directed by S S Raju, stars Teja Sajja and sensation Priya Prakash Varrier and was originally scheduled to release on 23rd April.
‘Narasimhapuram’, an action crime drama film, directed by Sriraj Balla, with main leads Nandakishore Dhulipala and Siri Hanumantu is the third film to release tomorrow. The other two releases are Ramakrishna Thota’s ‘Parigettu Parigettu’ starring Surya Srinivas and Amrita Acharya and Gautham Naidu directed ‘Trayam’, featuring Vishu Reddy, Sanjana Sequeira and Abhiram Palakollu in the lead.
Other anticipated movies like Love Story and Tuck Jagadish are expected to announce their release dates soon. Theatres have already planned and stacked up their releases for the next month with Mortal Kombat releasing on the 5th, The Suicide Squad on 13th and The Conjuring 3 on 30th August!
