In a piece of positive news amidst all the furore at HBO Max, the adult drama series ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ has been renewed by the streamer for a third season.
The series follows four friends as they navigate their college lives all the while discovering themselves. The series is not a masterpiece, but is a guilty pleasure for most, and is a breezy watch on a weekend. Besides the basic storylines, each episode is pretty much dancing to its own tune so whichever episode you pick, you won’t be missing much. The series is co-created by writer and ‘Ocean’s 8’ actress Mindy Kaling, who is best known for her works like ‘The Mindy Project’ and ‘Never Have I Ever’.
One of the four main protagonists is an Indian-origin character Bela. Despite coming across as too much at times, the character is a hilarious one. Someone who is unafraid to voice her sexual desires, the character also has the typical stereotypes like parents who want her to become a doctor and a backstory of how she wasn’t cool until she stopped with her oiled hair and glasses(though that one might be a valid one). The second season of ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ is still going on, with the last two episodes of the series set to release on the 15th of this month. The series touches upon various topics like LGBT rights, racism, and sexism upon others but is in a way refreshing because it does so with a tint of humour. It is in fact, quite self-aware at times and doesn’t go into all the usual woke stuff that people hate.
The HBO Max original is streaming in India on Prime Video. Between both seasons, 18 episodes have been released so far. Leave your seriousness and just watch the series for the few fun moments it provides. And a good thing about ‘The Sex Lives of College’ is that the series doesn’t try to be anything more than that.
