Comedy drama and sitcoms are probably the most feel good genres ever on television. Shows like Friends still rake in large viewership because of how re-watchable they are. Schitt’s Creek is the latest sensation in the sit-com space. While the world swooned over Schitt’s Creek (an amazing show in itself), there was another comedy drama television show that won hearts this year. The show is ‘The Bear’ (2022). Premiered on Hulu on June 23rd, The Bear Season One garnered exceptional reception in the US. Now streaming on Disney+Hotstar in India, The Bear is our major recommendation for this weekend binge.
The Bear follows a young chef Carmy as he shifts from the world of fine dining and comes home to Chicago. He has to now run his family’s Italian beef sandwich shop after the suicide of his older brother, who not left behind a pile of debts, but also a rundown kitchen, and an unruly lazy staff. He now has to face all the shortcomings of a small business, whilst also coping the loss of his sibling. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family. The show was appreciated for its joyous humour and meticulous drama apart from raving reviews for the main cast performances.
The Bear is created by Christopher Storer. It premiered on Hulu and stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colon-Zayas and Abby Elliott. The Bear currently stands at 100% Rotten Tomato Score and 91% Audience score. Metacritic gave the series a weighted average score of 88 out of 100 based on 24 critic reviews, indicating universal acclaim. The Bear makes for a riveting binge and thank us later. Stay tuned for more such recommendations.
