Rituparno’s 2013 movie ‘Satyanweshi’ is his take on the popular Bengali detective Byomkesh Bakshy. The movie adapted the story ‘Chorabali’ by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The music of the movie is given by Debajyoti Mishra and the cinematography is handled by Avik Mukhopadhyay.
Director Sujog Ghosh has played the role of Byomkesh and Anindya Chatterjee plays his assistant Ajit. ‘Satyanweshi’ tells the story of a prince who inherits the huge estate of his deceased father and has to yield to his dying wishes. He marries as per his father’s condition and opts for a child. But the palace librarian, who was befriended by the new bride, goes missing. And Byomkesh Bakshy is called upon to investigate what happened to him.
Satyanweshi is the last full length film by Rituparno Ghosh and gathered mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Byomkesh Bakshy is a very popular character and has a huge fanbase in the literary and cinematic world. Too many directors have made Byomkesh movies and Too many actors have played the character, not always does it happen that audiences like the movies. But you should definitely watch ‘Satyanweshi’ as it is a unique take on the famous character and you will like it if you are a fan of layered storytelling.
