SPOILER WARNING!
Apart from displaying over-the-top action sequences and too much family love, the Fast & Furious franchise also excels at bringing back fan-favourite characters. Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) returned in Fast & Furious 6 (2013) after being presumed dead in the fourth F&F entry (2009). The same thing happened with Han (Sung Kang) as well in F9 (2021) after we thought Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) killed him in the post-credits scene of Fast & Furious 6. The latest instalment in the franchise, Fast X, has brought back another fan-favourite character. He is not dead, though! His feud with Vin Diesel has become globally prominent. Yup, we are talking about Dwayne Johnson. The professional wrestler-turned-actor has returned to the franchise with Fast X.
According to a report from The Wrap, Johnson reprises his character of Luke Hobbs in the post-credits scene of Fast X. The film’s recent global premiere in Rome was attended by the entire cast and production team, along with representatives of selected media channels. Although, The Wrap did not share anything about the movie’s storyline. So, we do not know how Hobbs returns to the franchise.
Johnson’s return has come as a big surprise, considering his heated public feud with Vin Diesel on Instagram some time ago. The makers did not reveal anything about his appearance in Fast X, which was a smart move. It seems like the actor and Diesel are on the same side now. Both gentlemen have not yet declared the end of their real-life animosity openly.
Fast X is the right film to bring back Luke Hobbs. Johnson debuted in the F&F franchise with Fast Five (2011). His character was crucial in taking down Hernan Reyes, the infamous drug lord. Now, his son, Dante Reyes (played by Jason Momoa), has arrived in the life of Dom. He wants to avenge his father’s death by destroying the one thing Dom loves the most, his family.
The scenario mentioned above indicates that Dom needs all the help in the world to take down Dante for good, especially from Luke Hobbs. Johnson’s character has proved himself a worthy asset to Dom’s team several times. Additionally, Diesel has confirmed that Fast & Furious 12 will happen too.
Fast X will arrive in theatres worldwide on May 19. Stay tuned for more updates.
