While you are waiting for ‘Alien: Romulus’, we have brought you a film recommendation that’s helmed by its director Fede Álvarez and it will surely keep you on the edge throughout. It’s the 2016 home invasion horror thriller ‘Don’t Breathe’ and it’s streaming on Netflix and SonyLIV.
In ‘Don’t Breathe’ three delinquents break into the house of Norman, a Gulf War veteran who is blind, to steal his money. However, much to their horror, they discover that Norman is not as defenseless as he seems.
Directed by Fede Álvarez who has co-written the film with Rodo Sayagues, ‘Don’t Breathe’ stars Stephen Lang, Jane Levy, Dylan Minette, and Daniel Zovatto in prominent roles.
In ‘Don’t Breathe’ Álvarez wanted to depart from his previous work and include less blood, an original storyline, more suspense, and no dependence on supernatural elements, which he felt were overused. And that’s what he did in the film while still making the audience feel the horror.
‘Don’t Breathe’ grossed over $157 million and received largely positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances, direction, screenplay, and tense atmosphere. With an approval rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is said to offer a satisfyingly tense, chilling addition to the home invasion genre that’s all the more effective for its simplicity.
One other critic describes ‘Don’t Breathe’ as a a lean, very mean thrill ride that taps into several primal human fears and says that Álvarez establishes himself as one of the genre filmmakers to keep an eye on in the years ahead.
‘Don’t Breathe’ is currently streaming on Netflix and SonyLIV and if you love scary movies then this is just the right one for you.
