Despite being a commercial failure, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 managed to impress the critics and fans. It had several great moments and some heartbreaking ones as well. The most heartbreaking moment was the death of Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson). However, this scenario also opens a door for an important character from ‘Ghost Protocol’ to return to the action franchise.
‘Ghost Protocol’ came out in 2011 and earned nearly $700 million globally. It was the film that established the Mission: Impossible franchise as a real deal in Hollywood. Along with the familiar duo of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), the film also introduced two new characters to the franchise: William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and Jane Carter (Paula Patton). Renner got the chance to portray Brandt again in Rogue Nation (2015). However, Patton failed to become a part of the fifth MI film due to scheduling conflicts. As a result, we got Ferguson’s Elsa Faust in the movie.
The Mission: Impossible franchise is well-known for tying up loose ends. But it failed to show what happened to Patton’s Jane Carter after ‘Ghost Protocol’. Now with Ilsa’s death and Grace (Hayley Atwell) joining the IMF, thanks to both Ethan and Kittridge (Henry Czerny), Jane Carter can become an important addition to Ethan’s group.
Jane was an IMF agent in ‘Ghost Protocol’. But nearly 12 years have passed since the film’s events. We do not know where she is and what she is doing. Adding a character like Jane to Ethan’s team would be extremely beneficial for Ethan himself as well as his team members.
Rumors are circulating about Cruise attempting to do an epic underwater stunt in Dead Reckoning Part 2. This stunt will be bigger than Rogue Nation’s underwater scene. Ethan will need all the help he can get to get his hands on the key inside the Sevastopol submarine to stop the Entity at all costs. This is where Jane Carter can step in to aid Ethan.
