There are certain films that capture emotions in a way that they feel extremely raw, real and relatable. So much so that you cannot imagine yourself in the shoes of the characters.
One such film is the comedy drama ‘A Real Pain’ penned and helmed by Jesse Eisenberg who also stars in the film alongside ‘Succession’ star Kieran Culkin. The latter even won the Oscars, BAFTA and Golden Globe for his role in the film.
‘A Real Pain’ follows two mismatched cousins who reunite for a Jewish heritage tour through Poland in honour of their late grandmother, but old tensions resurface and instead of connecting with the family history what they fund is more about themselves. Their journey soon becomes an exploration of grief, identity, and the complexities of family bonds.
Critics have found ‘A Real Pain’ to be funny, heartfelt and moving in equal measures. Both Culkin and Eisenberg very skilfully balance wit and solemnity in a film that’s all about emotions.
‘A Real Pain’ is a kind of film that stays with you, making you think about your own tangled relationships, your own grief, and your unresolved past. Overall this one feels like a long heartfelt conversation with yourself. Do watch ‘A Real Pain’ on Jio Hotstar of you haven’t yet!
