Netflix has signed a first of its kind deal with the internationally acclaimed Egyptian musician Amr Diab to feature in an Arabic original drama series. The megastar will be returning to acting after a gap of 27 years, with his last stint as ‘Adham’ in the movie “Dehk Wele’b Wegad Wehob” opposite the late Omar Sharif.
Amr Diab aka ‘Al Hadaba’, with a career spanning over 30 years, has many accolades to his name including 7 World Music Awards and 6 African Music Awards. His albums have been on the top of international music charts such as Billboard. His songs have been so popular that many of them have been translated to different languages.
Amr Diab also finds mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the first Arab singer to receive the largest number of international music awards for most album sales in the Middle East. He was also voted as the World’s Best Arab Male Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards.
No further details have been revealed by Netflix as for the title, genre or release dates of this new Arabic original series. This new project with Amr Diab is in line with Netflix’s commitment to create authentic Egyptian content for global audiences to enjoy. Netflix had earlier revealed first-look of ‘Paranormal’, its first ever Arabic original from Egypt, scheduled to premiere in the Fall of 2020.
