Precisely a month back, we had made our readers aware of the nine Indian movie titles from the year 2021 that made it to the coveted top 250 Indian movies IMDb list. Interestingly, out of the total of nine Indian titles for the year 2021, four movies came from the Malayalam film industry. And it did not come as a surprise because the Malayalam film industry has been churning out some quality content especially in the year 2021.
Much to the delight of Malayalam cinema buffs and deservedly so, another critically acclaimed Malayalam film from the year 2021 has joined the top 250 Indian movies IMDb list. We are talking about Amazon Prime Video’s endearing relationship drama ‘#Home’. The film is currently rated a highly impressive 9.1 on IMDb (movie’s home page). ‘#Home’ is currently ranked 22 on the list, thereby surpassing the brilliant boxing drama ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ which is currently in 24th place.
‘#Home’ is based on an uncomplicated yet relatable premise that revolves around a technologically challenged father Oliver Twist (played by Indrans), who yearns for his son’s attention in the alien world of smartphones, where everyone is immersed in social media platforms. The simple and effective storytelling is further accentuated by a heartfelt lead performance.
The inclusion of ‘#Home’ amongst the top-rated Indian films substantiates the notion that content is king, at least for a significant portion of OTT audiences. Besides ‘#Home’, another content-oriented film that recently made it to the IMDb list was the Tamil language comedy-drama film ‘Mandela’ featuring Yogi Babu in the lead role. ‘Mandela’ is streaming on Netflix since April 2021.
Besides ‘#Home’ and ‘Mandela’, the ten Indian films on the current IMDb list from 2021 are ‘Shershaah’, ‘Mimi’, ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’, ‘Malik’, ‘State of Siege: Temple Attack’, ‘Karnan’, ‘Nayattu’, ‘Joji’, ‘Drishyam 2’, and ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’.
