Netflix has been focussing more on East Asian titles off-late. While most of the East Asian titles are the Korean and Japanese ones, this one Malaysian title is a beautiful little gem of a film. Tiga Janda Melawan Dunia aka ‘Three Widows Against the World’ (in English) is a Malaysian comedy and action film now streaming on Netflix India. Action comedy as a genre, when well made can be quite an entertainer. All the more fun when middle aged women are the protagonists in charge.
Three Widows Against the World follows Midah, Rohayu and Ani, three widows who live in a village. They are also big fans of the singer Aiman Zalini. After he announced his retirement and was about to hold a final concert for his fans, the three widows try to raise money to buy concert tickets to catch their favourite singer for the last time. The three makes consistent efforts for the same, but all in vain. The trio then get inspired by a local merchant and finally produce a vape flavor with the help of a lab assistant. However, here’s a catch. The vape flavors have caught the attention of drug dealers as it has anti-addiction properties. The trio’s concert plans are now marred by drug peddlers who chase them.
This exceptional yet indie action comedy is directed by Hyrul Anuar. It stars Khatijah Tan, Normah Damanhuri, Raja Azura, Norman Hakim, Rosnah Mat Aris, Ellyza Azizi and Abbas Mahmood in major role.
