We are talking about ‘Hunger’, a Thai drama film directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri and written by Kongdej Jaturanrasamee. The film stars Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying as Aoy, a street-food cook working at her family’s shop. Determined to improve her fortunes she accepts a mysterious invitation which changes her life forever.
Turns out this invitation was for working with infamous Chef Paul under whose tutelage Aoy struggles initially but later excels. Is that it though? Does it bring her the fortune she was looking for?
‘Hunger’ has moments that make you feel how greed and ego can be your worst enemies. It is also a reminder of the fact that poverty can be one of the toughest yet strongest guiding force in one’s life. But at the end it also makes you realise that money isn’t above peace of mind and that always be grateful for what you have.
The film grips you with its intensity and the exotic culinary journey is a spectacle in itself. The emotions in ‘Hunger’ are strong yet subtly captured by the camera. Not to forget the stellar performances specially from the lead star.
