Just a couple of months back, the OTT audiences were blessed with a wonderfully executed web series titled ‘Aspirants’. The highly-rated show is streaming on TVF’s YouTube channel and that too for free.
‘Aspirants’ narrates two different timelines that focus on three friends (played by Naveen Kasturia, Shivankit Parihar, and Abhilash Thapliyal), who aspire to crack the virtually impenetrable and almost century-old UPSC Civil Services exam. The story follows a non-linear narrative structure and is set amidst the backdrop of the Old Rajinder Nagar area of New Delhi. The series weaves through the ups and downs of the journey of these three friends’ striving hard to achieve their common dream of becoming an IAS officer.
And now, popular OTT platform MX Player has recently released a short film titled ‘Struggles of a UPSC Aspirant’. As the title suggests, the story touches upon the herculean efforts faced by aspiring IAS officers in their mission to crack the UPSC exam.
Directed by Akshat Vijaywargiya, the comedy-drama short film ‘Struggles of a UPSC Aspirant’ follows the protagonist Aditya (an IAS aspirant) and alludes to his life replete with stress, doubts, expectations, insults, and sacrifices pertaining to exam preparation. The short film features Badri Chavan, Shreya Gupto and Karan Sonawane in the lead roles.
Since the runtime of the short film is just under 16 minutes, thus it’s downright unfair to compare it with the celebrated web series ‘Aspirants’, which comprised five episodes with an average runtime of around 45 minutes.
Having said that, one striking similarity that we observed was that ‘Aspirants’ had collaborated with the Indian educational technology company Unacademy. In a similar way, ‘Struggles of a UPSC Aspirant’ mentions another online educator Edukemy.
Considering the sub-16-minute runtime of the film and its feel-good treatment, you may give the short film a try.
