Netflix has been disappointing this Halloween season with its Halloween offerings. Besides Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, none of their horror specials seem to work. But here’s a relief for the platform in the form of a Polish film. If you’re in a mood to watch a horror thriller revolving around cults and clergies, Binged is here with a recommendation this weekend. This latest 2022 Polish film ‘Hellhole’ is a horror thriller set in a Polish monastery in 1987.
Hellhole following a police officer’s investigation into mysterious disappearances that infiltrates a remote monastery and discovers a dark truth about its clergy. In 1957, in a Polish Church, a father is about to sacrifice a toddler. Just as he is about to kill the baby with a knife, 2 policemen storm the church and shoot the father. 30 years later, In a monastery that is cut off from the world, monks run a clinic for the possessed. One day, a young policeman Marek comes to the convent disguising as a clergyman. He penetrates monastic life and tries to find out reasoning for the mysterious disappearances of several tormented inmates. However, things take a dark turn as an escape from the monastery doesn’t exist.
Hellhole is directed by Bartosz M Kowalski, who also co-wrote the screenplay with his frequent writing partner, Mirella Zaradkiewicz. The film stars Piotr Zurawski, Olaf Lubaszenko, Sebastian Stankiewicz, Lech Dyblik, Rafał Iwaniuk, Krzysztof Satała, Malwina Dubowska and Zbigniew Waleryś in major roles. If you’re a horror junkie, Hellhole could definitely be worth a try.
