No matter how bad a film or TV show is, Netflix seems to be the go-to platform for giving it a second chance. Tarot, the hit 2024 horror flick, emerges as another epitome of this scenario. Despite receiving a “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg directional performed well at the global box office, earning nearly $49 million against its $8 million budget. And now, it is performing brilliantly on both Netflix US and Netflix India.
On Netflix India, Tarot has seeped into the Top 10 most-watched movies list, placing itself in the ninth spot after the first week of its successful streaming release. This horror project has also achieved the same on Netflix US, grabbing the fifth rank on the Top 10 list.
Tarot’s streaming success certainly comes as a surprise, considering its overwhelmingly negative critical reception during its theatrical release. At present, it stands with a “rotten” 18% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 57 reviews. Though, the audience’s reception (59%) was more favourable towards the movie. Tarot was criticised for its lazy writing, poor direction, and overall incoherent and lackluster nature. This is not the first time a rotten movie has made it into Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched list, and it certainly won’t be the last.
Serving as the official adaptation of Nicholas Adams’ 1992 novel “Horrorscape”, Tarot stars Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Jacob Batalon, Avantika, Humberly Gonzalez, Larsen Thompson, and more. You can stream it now on Netflix.
